What is CSLU?
Carrying the momentum of recent explosions in processing power, the
field of Spoken Language Technologies has launched itself into a new era of
rapid growth and change. A few years from now, conversing with our computers
will be as common as making phone calls from our car, sending pictures over
the telephone, or browsing the Internet is today.
CSLU is an Oregon Graduate Institute of Science
and Technology Research Center that focuses on Spoken
Language Technologies. Limited only by
creativity of application, Speech Technologies are currently considered for
helping people with visual, speech, or learning problems, dictating letters
directly into a computer, accessing the internet over the phone, using voice
commands to control devices, and education. Uniquely positioned to play a
part in the development of this burgeoning field, development at CSLU offers
many advantages:
- Broad coverage of speech and language technologies and academic
disciplines
- Comprehensive scientific and commercial experience ranging from applied
to basic science and from consulting to product development
- Situated in an enterpreneurial university focused on high technology
- A history of working with both corporate and academic partners
